Meg and Aleina

Early in the summer, Meg and I took a trip down to Sanford where my favorite fabric store is. She picked out some great stuff and said she'd make herself a quilt to bring with her to school in August. She has quite an eye for color and the patterns were lovely.

As the summer progressed, she got busy working 2 jobs and volunteering at the Barbara Bush wing at Maine Med and time got away from her. Then all of a sudden she started quilting...she'd be over here some evenings after work and stay until midnight, sewing and ripping and redoing.....
Until finally Friday arrived and it was major crunch time! The top had been created, but it needed to be put together and quilted. (Note she was leaving for school the next day!!!!)
She knew Grammie would help to get it together and she was right!
We had to set the sewing machine on the table so we could feed the project through the machine.
It was so big and heavy it took the two of us to work on it.
She would sew while I helded the quilt and then we'd switch places and reverse roles.
After about 6 hours, it was complete.....
I'm sure she'll enjoy it when it's cold this winter.....
It was fun to work on it together....

A nice flannel backing will make it snuggly and warm......

Aleina turned 13 on July 22nd. GF was going to take her and her friends out on the boat
for a ride and swim at Diamond Island.....but the weather has been nasty and finally after
2 delays, they were able to go out on Monday.

READY>>>>>SET>>>>>>>

GO................
Brrrrr that water was cold...about 58 degrees...
Isn't it nice to be young?
Heading home after a great day.....

Summer vacation coming to an end....

Thursday was last day with Grammie & Grandfather.
GF went to work and we played!
First of all, pool time...
then Grammie & Hannah treated themselves to a manicure and pedicure...
Hannah chose blue for the toes and pink for the fingernails...
Grammie stayed on the safer side with red and clear...

Aunt Julie decided to mow the lawn...
Stay on the deck kids...it's safer there....

A month ago we traded cars and got a stow n' go Van to make it easier
when we head south in December...
The vanity plate arrived today and Spencer took a picture of it...
(Seabat is short for Sea-bbatical) in case you wondered....

Deb & Rick picked up the kids and we all headed to the boat for a short spin
around the harbor...perfect evening for it...

Rick's at the helm...
Under the Casco Bay bridge we went....

Back at the slip...Hannah went searching for starfish and found a beauty!

Spencer was more interested in playing with his electronic game...

dinner time...does it look like they are posing???
A About 9 o'clock we all headed home, except GF who sleeps on the boat....
School starts next week, so they are off to see the Patriots play at Foxwood
before settling back into their school routine...
Thanks for coming guys...it was fun.

From Happy Hour to Geocashing

It's been awhile since I've updated the blog...summer goes flying by so fast I just can't seem to keep up with everything that's going on. The weather has been rainy, dreary, cloudy, cool...well, you get the picture! Maybe the Fall will give us some sunshine and warmer temps.
Here we are...The Lunch Bunch!
When I moved to Maine back in 1980, I got a job at GBF and formed some wonderful friendships with these great gals! We lost one of our group this year to cancer and all miss her.....Anita was such a super person, and she will never be forgotten.
Our knitting group gets together at Panara Bread every Wednesday evening.
We usually work on our own projects, and will knit a blanket or two during the year for Project Linus.

I have learned so much from these ladies....they are always ready to stop and help one another out with a problem or suggestion.

When I joined the group a couple of years ago, all I could do was knit scarves....with their help, I've knit almost a dozen sweaters and several afghans.

Last Thursday, Diane & Rick Mello along with their daughter Lindsay and her friend Cassie drove up from Rhode Island to spend a couple of days in Maine.
Diane was Guy's Customer Service Rep when he was at Ameriscource Bergen and still raves about how wonderful and resourceful she was.
Enjoying a meal together

Friday morning we took them on a scenic Lighthouse tour around the area. Guy offered to go by boat, but they aren't comfortable on the water, so we toured by car.
We were so lucky the weather finally took a turn for the best and we actually saw the sun! Here we are walking on top of the bunkers overlooking Casco Bay.

Looking toward Portland's skyline

Spring Point Light

Up at Fort Williams and Portland Headlight

Some interesting stone chairs at Two Lights

MS Poker Run on Saturday.
We went out with Bill & Kathy Smith

The MS Poker Run is held every summer to raise money for MS

The boats line up and parade around the Harbor

The object of the Poker Run is to get to the 7 designated marinas in the area, pick up a card and then turn them in at DiMillo's to see who has the best poker hand. There were some pretty good prizes this year...3 of them.....we came in 4th!:(
Each marina dresses up and the best costumes/themes get a prize.
These are the Vegas Ladies!
Spring Point Marina won with their "Super Heroes"
note: even the dog was in costume...

After the run, they had a BBQ...here's Kathy, Bill & Guy enjoying...

Sunday was the Tug Boat Races..
Another beautiful day and the harbor was full of boats....
most of them out to see the races....
Here they come to line up.....

Ready! Set! GO....

We were rockin' and rollin' on our boat....
They sure churn up the wake.....
After the races, some of them get together and "Push" to
see who is the most powerful...
Guy's namesake, nephew Guy Splettesoer is the Captian of this tug....
She's a beauty....
On our way back to our slip, we saw the "Duck",
a local amphibian tourboat.
Hannah and Spencer came on Monday morning to spend the week with us.
Next week they go back to school and are getting a break from their Daycare to hang out with their Grandparents before their school routine begins.
Nichole who is home for a few days took the kids Geocaching.
For those who are not familiar with geocaching, it is a high-tech
treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.
For more info...go to www.geocaching.com
Above is a picture of the printout instructions.
the location of the hunt was Portland Headlight....

In a nutshell, the object of the game is to locate the "treasure" and leave another one in its place, then report back in via computer later as to the findings and leave new clues.

Spencer found his treasure!
and so did Hannah!

I'm not sure what this ritual was all about.....

this point of interest lended one of their clues...
something about "Annie and a number".....
Later we went down to the marina and had dinner on Sea-bbatical...

After dinner we headed home to watch the Olympics!
