From NC to Ga today....almost there....

We arrived in Kingsland , Ga. after another crazy-weather driving day.
Lots of heavy rains and then clear blue sunny skies.
Remember those old Burma Shave signs we used to see all along the roads?
Well, from Ma.to SC, the highways are bombarded with all sorts of billboards.
After living and enjoying billboard free scenery in Maine, they can become quite
ugly and after awhile you don't even seem to know they are there....but...
these are certainly eye-catching to say the least. "South of the Border" signs line the roads with eye catching phrases advertising their large facilities.

They are clever and humorous...
Once we were in NC, signs advertisingJR's intrigued us to the point
that we decided to stop and see what JR's was all about. The only way I can describe it...is to compare it to the Christmas Tree Shoppe, only larger and cheaper! They carry EVERYTHING .. from dolls to cigars. It's a good thing we didn't have room in the Van, because we would have gone on a
spending spree.....We did manage to find place for chocolate covered pretzels though....

If it's Wednesday, we must be in North Carolina!

Tuesday we headed to Royersford, Pa. to spend time with our
friends, Norma & Joe. Joe is the President of the USS Brownson Assoc.
He and Norma are hosting next year's Reunion which
will be held in West Philadelphia.
They took us for a tour of the Conference Center and
Hotel where the meetings will be held.
We were quite impressed with all the work they
have already done to pull this event all together.
After a sight-seeing tour of the area, we stopped
here for a drink and dinner. Excellent choice!
Please note Guy's new purse:)
Had a great breakfast before heading off down I95
on our way to Fl.

It was certainly a 5 Star "B&B"....
Thank you so much for being thePerfect Hosts.
Hope to see you in Fl. this winter so we can
return the special treatment.

As you can see, there's not an inch to spare in the Van!
We arrived in Wilson, NC tonight about 5PM after
a weather-crazy day. One minute it was sunny, the next
it was dark, heavy winds and raining.
There was worse weather all around us, so can't complain.
Watching the forecast to see what we're up against
in the morning.

Visiting with Meg at Quinninipiac

We left at 10AM and after a couple of stops to get gas and food,
we arrived at Quinninipiac at 2:30.
Meg met us and led the way up to the Senior Campus..
What an absolutely beautiful campus!

The wind turbines that generate some of the electricity used.
Under construction, with more to be added in the future.

Checking out her "suite"....she has quite a good size room..
Love the quilt, Meg...
A serious conversation going on here...
Kitchen/Dining Room
Hallway
Looking out her window toward Volley Ball court
and basketball court in background

Heading into the cafeteria..

How impressive is this?

We went to Eli's for a nice dinner, then dropped her back at her Dorm so she could do more studying for a big test in the morning.

Saying our Good-byes!

This was the week for saying good-byes...Nichole took me out to lunch one afternoon at Otto's..it's a little hole in the wall that serves the best pizza ever!
I had a piece of Squash, cranberry and feta cheese, but... my favorite is the Mashed Potato (yes, mashed potato!) scallions and bacon one.
After we visited a neat bookstore at Longfellow Square that was going out of business....70% off, but we both came out empty-handed...

Charlene and Rita treated me to a delicious bowl of Haddock Chowder with homemade biscuits at Becky's...and afterward, we all indulged in a piece of homemade pie for dessert.....We are planning our "Diva Week" in Florida in February...can't come soon enough for us....

Friday evening, we joined KB & Nila at DiMillo's for Happy Hour where we enjoyed a few adult beverages and a bowl of Shrimp and Scallop Chowders. Thank you guys, it was a fun evening, ending with a piece of Nila's Apple Cake at their condo.

Brunch at Joe's Boathouse was on the agenda for Sunday where Julie
treated us to a great breakfast. While the guys talked "boats", the gals chatted about Dewey and Zeus and Holiday plans.

Saturday evening Guy and I went up to Brenda's where Rick and Family shared salad, pizzas and a Bon Voyage cake.
Sunday afternoon, we said good-bye to Jim and Pat and their friends, Jim and Norren who were visiting from New York. We're hoping Jim and Pat will be coming down to the Cape for a visit next Spring.
It's Sunday evening now, the Van is all packed...we were hoping to have extra room this year, but somehow those boxes kept multiplying until every inch was filled. The refrigerator is empty, the place is spotless and we're ready to leave town.
We are very fortunate to have rented our home for the entire winter...she's a great gal..professional Lady and we are both very comfortable with her being here....and happy the house will not be empty and cold during the winter season.
Keep checking the blog for our adventures...hopefully, we will not be having camera and computer issues like we did last year.....

New addition to the Family

We have a new addition to the Family...His name is Dewey and he is now about 14 weeks old and belongs to Nichole...she shares him with us! When she first introduced him, she made it perfectly clear that there were 2 rules we had to follow....#1 being "no table food"..which we agreed with...who wants a dog begging at the table? #2 was (and she was looking directly at me) no clothes on this animal! That was OK too, because it hadn't even entered my mind to start sewing him outfits!

Earlier this week, Nichole and Dewey came to visit....she brought Dewey into the bathroom, shut the door and we could hear the rustling of plastic bags and soft chuckles....and out they came! Nichole had broken down and put clothes on her dog!!!! She excused it by saying she was entering him in a contest at the local Pet Shop and the top prize was a years supply of FREE dog food.....She and Julie (the "other" Grammie) had each bought him an outfit to wear.

Dewey the Squirrel!

Dewey the Banana Split Ice Cream Sundae

Dewey the thoroughly embarassed (but adorable) puppy....
And now as the colder weather is settling in, Nichole has suggested that maybe he could use a little warm jacket....and he does need one, so into the sewing room I will go and see what I can make...something plain, simple, with no ice cream or squirrel motifs!

A couple weekends ago we drove to Howard Pond, in Andover to spend the weekend with Frank and Marie. Jan and Joel drove down from Winterport to join us.
The drive up there was not pleasant with high winds and heavy rains, but once we got inside their cozy cottage, poured a few adult beverages, we warmed up quickly.

Quite a portrait.....

Saturday morning was sunny, cool and brisk but quite pleasant.
After breakfast, we drove up to Sunday River, boarded the Chondola
and rode to the top of the mountain. The foliage was not as bright and vibrant as
it usually is, but still quite a colorful view.

Drove home Sunday afternoon and then back up to
Lisbon Falls to the Dobson's for a little Family get-together
that evening, before 6 of us drive to Florida for the Winter.

Finally updating the blog!

After many months of computer and camera issues, I think we're on our way again! Time to head to Florida and keep all you folks updated as to our whereabouts and adventures.

Let's give this a test and go from there....
