Disney Dream comes into Port

We are infatuated with the Cruise ships...and when we heard
that the newest and grandest Disney ship was due into Port, we got up early Tuesday morning to greet it coming in. There was lots of fanfare and hundreds of people lined Jetty Park to see it firsthand.
Boasting 14 towering decks, a ship length of 1115 feet and a max. width of 125 feet, the 128,000 ton vessel includes 1250 staterooms and has the capacity to comfortably accomodate 4000 passengers - along with the more than 1458 crew members who tend to the needs of every cruise guest each and every day.

Those tubes are the AquaDuck, the first ever water
coaster at sea.
It tied up at the local pier and on the left is the Disney Wonder
passing her on its way out to sea. You can see the difference
in the size! The Disney Dream celebration will be held
on January 26th, which should be a fun time for all
us "locals"!
Friday night was the monthly steak dinner put on by the Cocoa Beach Elks Club. Guy was at the grill, cooking our steaks to perfection!
5 couples drove down to support the Elks and enjoy the
great dinner. From Left to right...Carol and Terry, Jean and Joe, Myself,
Sally and Barney (another couple of Maniacs) and Arlyn and Marie.
Chief Cook and Bottle Washers.....
Guy and Walter

Guy, Master Chef Walter and Chef John
The CB Elks Club do a lot for the local youth in the community. They contributed over $58,000 in 2010 to the Junior and Senior High School activities plus the Soccer and Little Leagues of both Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. Also the Veterans organizations and local charities.
These dinners are just one way of raising money for the above.

First Beach Party of 2011

The 1st Sunday of each month, the 3 Condo Associations
have a Party on the Beach...Sunday turned out to be a pretty nice day, a few showers passed by, but then it cleared and the sun peeked through. Everyone brings a dish to share....Someone went to a lot of trouble to make these cute little Snowman cookies, which were a hit.

Guy watched as Arlyn went in the 62 degree water...

A couple of the locals, who entertain at a few of the bars in the Port, were on the scene to play for us. "John Hopf" kept us entertained before and after our lunch.

Guy lost a bet to Arlyn...
Penn State lost to Florida Gaters yesterday, so
he had to wear the Blue and Orange shirt all day.
Arlyn riding his bike, pulling his beach buggy behind him.
This is a handy contraption to have, we're beginning to
price them out....so much easier than hand carrying it all
down to the beach and back.

Will be back next Christmas...

Happy New Year

Happy New Year 2011
May your life be filled with Happiness and Good Health
We brought the New Year in by inviting a few of our
neighbors to join us for Dinner, and a glass (or 2) of good cheer.

Carol, Terry, Guy, Marie and Arlyn

Bridgette and to the left, her puppy, Phoebe

We all actually stayed awake until a little after 11, then some
left to go to the beach to watch the fireworks, a few were going home to crawl into their beds and we watched the fireworks from our deck.
2010 passed by much too quickly...
As we toasted in 2011, we wondered what the year
ahead will bring for us.

We sure were lucky....

Tuesday, we were scheduled to fly out of Portland Jetport
at 6:50AM. We tried to print our boarding passes the night before,
but Delta kept saying there was "turbulence" in the air and
to try again later.....Well, we found out later, that the "turbulence"
was they couldn't get a plane into the jetport.
Early the next morning, after 2 delays, we flew from PWM into Atlanta, missing our connection to Orlando.
We were so fortunate that Delta was able to get us on another
flight later in the day.
We had a 7 hour wait, but that was fine with us, because we eventually
had a seat, arriving in Orlando about 8PM.
This was just the B concourse, there were hundreds and
hundreds of stranded, unhappy passengers milling around,
looking for a flight home.

Storm storm brewing....

When we left Raymond to head for Gorham, the weather
forecast was calling for blizzard conditions
for the next couple of days.
We decided it would be wise if we packed up and headed
to Portland area for the night, instead of coming back to Raymond.
Turned out, it was a smart move on our part.
After gathering with Rick and Brenda and Family,
we drove to stay with our good friends, Jim and Pat.
They graciously took us in out of the cold for the night
and put us up.
Jim cleaning off his windshield.
This is why Guy loves living in Florida for the winters...
Scraping and shoveling are not his favorite things to do..
The next day he went out with Jim and his snowplow
and "helped" him for the afternoon, while Pat and
I sat by the cozy fire, chatted, read and napped.

Meg and Mike stopped by to say their good-byes and
the Thomson's invited them to join us for dinner.

We had a delicious pot roast with all the trimmings...
Comfort food for sure....

Christmas with the Linscott's & Peluso's

Day after Christmas, we went to Rick's house to celebrate
Christmas with Guy's kids and Family.Meeting of the minds...Deb, Hannah, Brenda and myself.
Aleina was too exhausted to join us, so she and Ling Ling
took a little snooze.
