Decorating the Grounds

This was the 47th Annual Art Festival Weekend in Cocoa Beach.
There were over 250 booths of paintings, photography, woodworks, jewelry and sculptures. Lots of food and drink booths, along with several bands.
This was quite a unique idea.
Its called a Porta Party...a huge tracker trailer rolls in,
the sides open up and down drops the sit down bar, along
with a couple of large TV's.
It was the hot spot of the festival, for sure.

Saturday afternoon we volunteered at the Coke trailer.

It was a busy weekend....they also decorating the grounds at SL.
Guy worked Friday morning, then helped out at the food booth
for the Elks at the Festival. Come nightfall, he was exhausted!
Sunday they finished decorating, ending up at the ClubHouse.

Hanging the large wreath inside...

Hooray! It's perfect and the lights all work..
Great job guys....

We all ended up at Fishlips for a well deserved dinner.
Good job guys.....It looks wonderful

Happy Thanksgiving 2010

Thanksgiving 2010

It was a beautiful day at the Cape....sunny, warm breeze, temps in high 70's...not a cloud in the sky. Spoke to the Family at home and tried not to emphasize too much on the weather conditions we were experiencing!

Then a dark cloud loomed over the condo when I started doing the prep work for dinner. The sink backed up...it was Guy to the rescue....
He jumped in, tools in hand, took apart the drain, cleaned out the clog, put it all back together with no extra pieces left over and all of his limbs intack!
Of course, I should mention, that this is a reaccuring problem, so he's getting to be quite a pro at it.......hummm...maybe he could get a part time job as a plumber's helper....

Now for the turkey carving.....

Our guests and neighbors, Linda and John..
I'm sure you remember John the Pom Pom Man and John the carpenter,
well today, he was Guest John....
We all stuffed ourselves and later even had room for pumpkin pie!
We are all thankful for Family, Friends and for those who are away defending our freedom. We are blessed to be Americans.

Getaway Weekend

A couple weeks ago one of our friends was telling us about the great deal they got on a last-minute cruise deal...so I thought...what the heck! I'm going to try to get one of those deals too. I got online and sure enough, found one for $139.00+TX.
It was on Royal Caribbeans "Monarch of the Seas"..
We left Port Canaveral (a 10 minute ride for us) late Friday afternoon, arriving back home this morning (Monday) about 9AM.
Arlyn drove us to the Port, dropped us off and we were on our adventure!
Going through security was like the horror stories we are watching on TV with the infamous "Love Pat".
I was wearing a shirt with a sewn in metal decoration that set off the alarms and I was whisked aside and "wanded"...quite thoroughly, I might add!
After they were convinced, it was just my shirt, I was warned not to wear it again on the ship (which I didn't!!) Looking down, coming out of the Port, we saw John (better known as Pom-Pom John) and Linda waving us on.. It was nice to see our neighbors down there wishing us a Bonn Voyage.
One of our favorite restaurants...Fishlips ..
looking at it from a different view....

Looking down from Jetty Park to Cocoa Beach A Delta IV Heavy Satellite was scheduled to take off from
Cape Canaveral Friday evening....we were disappointed it was scrubbed...it would have been a grand sight to see from the ship...

And then the parade of food began with the evening meal...
Black Angus Steak was our choice...
Went to the Theater to see the show, which was an extremely funny Comedian...

This was the view coming into Nassau Saturday morning.
The skies were blue, it was sunny and warm.

"Mad Summer", a 257' Lurseen yacht sat beside us.
This boat has a crew of 25,with a Helo Pad
6 Staterooms, with 2 Hot Tubs and an indoor/outdoor swimming pool.
You can rent this baby, for how much??? Mega bucks, I'll bet.

We took a tour boat over to Atlantis where we wandered around
enjoying the sights.

Walking around the Marina, is Guy's sightseeing choice.
He was quite impressed with the 4/300 horsepower engines...
on a dingy, no less.

Christmas tree just feels out of place in 80 degree weather...
We walked through the hallways of Atlantis' shops....

Very pretty walk way....

Back in downtown Nassau, the tourists were having a great time...
We went back to the ship to get ready for the Captains Cocktail Party and
Formal night.....

This is what we saw when we opened our cabin door..
The room steward had made a monkey from a couple of the bathroom towels...
Pretty clever!
Sunday we were in Coco Cay, Royal Caribbeans private Island.
This is a beautiful piece of property...
There was plenty to do....they had every water toy and activity imaginable.
and there were more than enough beach chairs and hammocks for everyone.
Even those who required wheel chairs, had the proper equipment so they could also enjoy the Island.

A nice Bar-B-Que was available....

We even contemplated going para-sailing...
We didn't, but will before the Winter is over ....

Time to relax after a long walk and nice lunch....

Back on the ship that evening, the waiters did a little performing for us....

Gene and Barbara....
We were seated at a table for 8 every evening
It was fun to chat about our adventures of the day

Joe and Adele

Eileen and "Tick" (Tom)
We became fast friends with these guys
and plan on visiting them on their Horse Farm in Ocala after the Holidays.

Finale at the "Sound of Music" Theatre

A turkey greeted us on our way out the door this morning as we were leaving.
The ship was getting ready for their next guests who would be celebrating Thanksgiving with them.
The weekend passed quickly and we had a great time...
Now we have to slip from "vacation" into "retirement" mode....
It's a tough life, but somebody has to do it.
And again, here's John....
We called him Chauffeur John this morning....

A busy week for Guy

It was a busy week for Guy...
On Tuesday, he went to the Elks to help with their weekly dinner.
Wednesday he left early, and headed down to Patrick AFB to meet his friend Walter and his friend Fred. They spent the morning and part of the afternoon fishing in the Banana River. He got the first fish, a 2# sea trout which he released...
They went to lunch after...a good time was had by all.
After dinner, he walked across to the Club House to attend the Association meeting. After 3 hours, he came back, shaking his head, wondering how his friends on the Board (who volunteer, no pay involved) take the verbal abuse some of the Condo members. No matter what they do, someone complains about it.Sometimes, it just doesn't take much to make him happy!
He brought his old scanner down this winter, hoping to be able to monitor
the goings on of all the ship traffic in the Port.
Sometimes it worked, but most of the time, it didn't!
So I sent away for a new one for him and it arrived this week.
He was so excited, but of course, the excitement ended quickly, when
he realized he couldn't program the darn thing!
Where is Andrew when he needed him?
Guy said he (meaning Andrew) could program it with his eyes closed.....
so Andrew.....come on down..GF needs help!!
A neat car we saw on our way to Patrick's
Guy can't remember what it's called.
Does anyone recognize the make and model??
(click on the picture to enlarge for a better view)
Thursday we decided we should go shopping for Thanksgiving Dinner
and not wait until next week and fight all the crowds.
They had a huge tent sale at Patrick AFB
It was a booze tent, giving free samples too...

Guy felt like a kid in a candy store....

I stood in line while he raced around, checking all the good
prices on Merlot....no boxed wine for him this trip.....
Jerry & Joyce have planned to come down to see the Shuttle
go up since Oct. 29th....every time it was scheduled, another
problem was discovered and it was postponed again....
The latest now is a schedule date of Dec. 3rd....

So they planned to come down on Thursday to see the spy satellite
go up, and that was scrubbed.....so we said, come on down anyway
and we'll have dinner.......we always have such a great time with them....
Now the launch is tonight and we are leaving this afternoon for a
long, fun weekend and will miss it..
Check back on Monday to see pictures of our latest adventure!

Thanksgiving dinner on the Beach

We were scheduled to have it last Sunday, but due to the weather, it got postponed until today. Skies were blue, breezes warm and sun bright, perfect for a Thanksgiving Beach get-together.
It was a pot-luck affair, everyone brought a dish that would have been served at the Thanksgiving table.
Joan finished up a cranberry tossed salad that she was was yummy....

Does this look like a posed picture, or what?
L to R, Kay, Guy, John, Linda and Marie.
It was a fun afternoon....
