Charlestson is such a beautiful city...

Wednesday..

Frank and Marie golfed today so we went to Charleston on our own. Parked our car and walked about an hour trying to find the Calhoun Mansion, only to discover it was within minutes of where we had parked the car....oh well, the exercise was good for us and we saw a lot of the neighborhood. Part of the gardens of the Calhoun Mansion...it was an interesting tour and we recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Flowers were in bloom wherever we were...I'm not sure just what these are, but they smelled heavenly.

Get a look at this old Silver Rolls Royce parked on one of the streets....

There are so many beautiful old homes in Charleston.....none of them less than a million dollars...

There is an old custom still observed here...notice how the porch is open and there's a closed door at the beginning....It is said if the door is closed, the Family does not want company...if open, company is welcomed. All through the city you see porches like this....interesting!!

These are single family homes in Isle of Palms....These unusual steps are called Charleston stairs. Years ago, men would use one set and Ladies the other... they used them separately so men would not (accidently) see underneath the Ladies skirts.....

I just loved the porches on this one.

These are Million $$$$ homes that are falling into the sea....There were 3 in this particular area, but many others down the beach aways. These homes have been grandfathered and can be build so close to the water....the others have to be built on stilts at least 100 feet away from the water.....buy why.....even if you are "allowed" to build here... why would you???

Wednesday night we all went out to dinner at "The Mustard Seed". Tomorrow morning we'll be heading up the South Carolina coast again......
