Sunday we took the ferry at Cedar Point over to
Orkacoke. North Carolina subsidizes their ferry fleet...it only cost us $15.00 to cross over to
Orkacoke...the trip took 2 1/4 hours. This little town must be bustling in the summer...a
picturesque little village on the ocean that thrives on tourist business. We stopped in at Howard's, an Island favorite, for a bit of lunch and soaked up some of the local flavor.
While we were crossing on the ferry, Guy managed to find a Coast Guard 47' patrol boat....
We still marvel at all these gorgeous homes....where does all this money come from??
From Okracoke, we took the (free) 45 minute ferry to Cape Hatteraus....and I might add, it's freezin' here......I had to kick off my sandals and find shoes and socks in my suitcase to keep my feet warm....Tomorrow we'll be digging deep for warmer jackets:(
As we drove along, the sand was blowing across the highway....looks a little like snow doesn't it???
